Style Maker

I love to look inside people’s houses.  Call me a voyeur at heart but there is something so interesting and intimate about taste, style and focus.

When customers come into abode looking for that special something, I ask them, what is your style?  Often they look sheepish and admit they don’t know or they don't feel they have a style, when in reality they are style makers just by shopping vintage.

Several years ago, we issued a challenge to our customers, consignors and employees to “name your style”.  Photos were submitted and a phrases created to identify their décor direction.  Some of the styles named were:

abode style (all things abode, fun, funky & functional)

Mission chic (Mission style clean lines and warm woods mixed with crystal embellishments, Santos figurines and original small works of art)

Industrial fun (the industrial edge of metal and reclaimed wood combined with vintage sign letters and toys)

Vintage circus (rich bold colors, antique circus ephemera, colorful antique quilts and small collections)

Girly up (Vintage meets the old west – think cowboy boot planters, lace curtains and velvet upholstery embellished with a branding iron motif)

Cozy chic (beautiful regency styles you can put your feet up on!  Nothing was unapproachable in this setting)

Unforgettable (think New York subway meets Country Living warmth)

Eclectic retro (Inspirational mid-century with a touch of shabby)

These are just a few of our favorites, hopefully you will be inspired to look around you and realize even by reading this blog, you are making and expressing your style!
