Transforming an Average Coffee Table

Howdy Folks, it's Jamie from Rosey Relics. I call myself the Southern Chapter of the Reclaim-Ologists because I'm so far away, down here in good Ol' Milford, Utah. I love being a part of this group and I love finding awesome treasures to share with you all.
I found this coffee table...not much to look at in its current state, quite squatty and dated but I LOVE me a drop leaf table. You can't appreciate them when they're so low to the ground though....so I had plans to give this lady some sexy new legs to better accentuate her lovely top.

Now here's the 411 on how to transform the table....first you get your trusty husband. If you don't have one of those they can be found at your local Home Depot...kidding, mostly:) But really this was so super simple anyone can do it. We forgot to buy dowels while we were at the store and seeing how its a 50 mile drive to the nearest one, we improvised....broom sticks, (that your husband has refused to throw away for 6 years because someday we will need them) well today was that day! Sometimes it pays to be a hoarder.

We also found these awesome old banister rungs to use as the legs, perfect way to recycle old parts.

We used the original top brace pieces to save on cost and luckily the banisters and the old legs were roughly the same size so it made it super easy. First we cut out slots for the braces, then glued and screwed them into place. Same with the broomsticks.
See here's the makings of the new legs. And yes we work in our kitchen sometimes, as a mother of 3 boys under 3 years old, you work when and where ever you can.

And then you just put the top back on using all the original screws once again saving on cost. We gave this girl a good sanding all over, placed some wood buttons in the screw holes and she was ready for a coat of paint.
And here she is complete with her sexy new legs and updated style. This is the part I love...turning a squatty little table into something beautiful that will add such a fun flare to someone's home. No longer an outdated coffee table this babies moving on up into the world of entry and sofa tables.
Use your available resources and be creative!! The most important part is to have fun.

Have a great weekend everyone and do something crafty!!!
